Common biomechanical problems
Biomechanical problems of the feet include:
- Fallen arches
- Over-pronation (feet rolling inwards)
- Supination (feet rolling outwards)
There may be several reasons for these problems, including weakness in the muscles of the hip or knee, or tightness in the joints or muscles of the lower limb that changes the way you walk or run.
Treatment with orthotics
Biomechanical problems of the foot can be treated effectively with orthotics: special insoles that support your feet and help them work more efficiently.
The most effective orthotics are custom made to fit your feet, but in some cases non-prescription heat-moulded orthotics or insoles can be used.
